You need a gentle nursery that works at 3 a.m. — not a showroom. Start with sleep safety, a place to change, a place to sit, and enough soft layers to get through a laundry delay. Everything else can wait.
Checklist
- Clear flat sleep space that meets current safe-sleep guidance from your clinician / AAP habits you already follow
- Firm mattress + fitted sheet you can change half-asleep
- Dim lamp + white-noise option you already own (gadget optional)
- Change surface with wipes, cream only if skin asks, spare onesies within reach
- Chair or spot where you can feed and rest your arms
- Hamper + wet bag for blowouts
- One soft swaddle/sleep sack style your household already trusts (TOG for the season)
- Skip the full décor haul until the first week settles
Quick table
| Need | Keep it simple | Skip for now |

Start with the sleep surface and the change spot. Everything else can wait until a quieter Tuesday.
