Warm cheeks. Restless sleep. You’re already checking the clock. This map is the comfort wait: soft room, cool cloth, sips, and a quiet list of when to call your clinician. No dosing. No diagnosis. Just the next small things a tired adult can do while you watch and wait.
The map
- Dim the room a notch. Soft light, soft voice. You’re not fixing the day — you’re making the wait gentler.
- Offer a light layer they can kick off. Overheating feels worse than a bare onesie and a thin blanket nearby.
- Cool cloth on the forehead or neck — lukewarm water, wrung out. Swap when it warms. Skip ice packs and alcohol rubs.
- Offer fluids they already take: breast milk, formula, water if your clinician has already okayed it for their age. Small sips count.
- Keep the room from becoming a furnace. Fan on low across the room, not blasting their face. Open a window if the air is stale.
- Note the start time of this wait on your phone. You’re not racing a chart — you’re giving yourself a clean memory for the clinician call later if you need one.
- Sit or lie near them. Skin contact or a hand on the back often settles the thrash better than another gadget.
- When they’re quieter, rest yourself for ten minutes. The map still works if you close your eyes on the couch.

- Guilt about the canceled outing or the half-done dishes
