Some days are for soft survival, not a perfect routine. A survival day is a short plan: water, one meal already decided, a restocked change kit, one two-minute reset, and permission to let the nice-to-haves wait. Magazine-warm logistics — not a lecture, not a scare story, not a medical checklist. Pick one adult need and one baby need that actually help. Everything else can be “good enough.” Tomorrow can hold a longer list. Keep the phone face-down for one stretch if the comparison scroll is loud. Dim the lamp when the overhead feels like too much. Ask for one handoff — partner, friend, or text-a-neighbor — even if they say no. You’re not proving anything today. If something feels urgent or unsafe, call your clinician or local urgent care. This page is comfort logistics only.

  • Productivity challenges dressed as self-care
  • Burnout horror / doom framing
  • Monitor-as-fear kits sold as the fix
  • Doing every shift alone to “prove it”
  • Guilt about what other homes look like on Instagram today

Checklist

  • Water within reach for the adult who is holding / feeding
  • One simple meal or snack tray already decided (no scrolling the pantry)
  • Diapers / wipes / cream-if-needed restocked for the next few changes
  • One soft reset under two minutes (window open, lamp dim, phone face-down)
  • One handoff ask written or sent — partner, friend, or text-a-neighbor — even if they say no
  • Screens optional; skip the guilt scroll about what other homes look like today
  • End the day with the same three steps: water, dim lamp, one clean onesie ready
