Gums busy. Chin shiny. You’re rocking the same loop you rocked at dusk. This is a teething-night map: cool cloth, clean pressure, earlier wind-down, and permission to drop the perfection script. Not a diagnosis. Not a gel prescription. Just what helps a tired adult get through tonight.
The map
- Start wind-down a little earlier than usual. Same order you already know — bath or wipe-down, feed, dim lights — just shifted left so you’re not negotiating at the cliff edge.
- Offer a clean, cool (not frozen-hard) cloth or a firm clean teether they already like. Pressure on the gum, not a fight over a new toy.
- Wipe drool before it sits in the folds. Soft cloth, pat dry. A dry chin at 2 a.m. is worth more than another product.
- Extra bib or soft bandana for the evening stretch so the onesie isn’t soaked by lights-out.
- Hold them upright for a stretch after the last feed if they’re gulping air between gnaws. Burp, then try the sleep surface you already trust.
- White noise low and steady. You’re not masking a problem — you’re giving the room one soft edge.
- Trade with a partner or set a phone timer for a twenty-minute reset for yourself: water, bathroom, shoulders down.
- If they’re still chewing the night apart, go back to cool cloth + contact — not a new aisle of “miracle” fixes.
